This is when there is no flame icon on the thermostat or via the Heatmiser Neo App, however the heating keeps coming on.
A background
Our receivers have a function called fail safe. This can apply with any thermostat which sends a radio signal to the receiver, usually the neoAir or Slimline RF range of our thermostats. This should not apply to hard wired thermostats.
This applies to the following receivers:
- UH8-RF
- UH8-RF V2
- RF Switch
- RF Switch V2
- RF Switch 16A
- miniHub
You can check what the receiver looks like by going onto the following link. Receivers are usually near the boiler or the heat pump.
What is Fail safe?
Fail safe is designed to prevent frost damage e.g. pipes freezing by heating the zone affected for 12 minutes in every hour (20% of the time) until the signal is restored. This happens if the receiver haven't received a signal from the thermostat within a 40 minute period. On your receiver, you will see the zone light come on.
What can cause fail safe to happen?
- The neoAir / Slimline-RF has run out of battery
- The signal is poor between the neoAir/Slimline RF and the RF Switch/UH8-RF
- The aerial on the UH8-RF/UH8-RF V2 is not pointing upwards
- The thermostat has lost pairing to the receiver
Whilst you can turn this function off, we don't recommend this because you remove the safety system in your home. It also masks a potential signal issue that we would recommend is identified and corrected by the use of our wireless repeaters. You can use more than of our own repeaters on the system. They can relay the signal from one booster to another.
