If it is electric underfloor heating
When an electric mat is fitted, there will be a floor probe installed. This is to prevent the floor from overheating. Usually the floor temperature cannot go above 28°C. In addition the type of mat or the materials in the floor can be a factor. If the floor is never warms up, you would need an electrician to investigate.
If it is water based heating
- Is there as flame icon on the thermostat?
- If there is not, turn the heating up so you get a flame icon
Look for the wiring centre
When you turn the heating on and off, does the red light come on and off with it?
If the answer is yes, you should see the following happen:
- The boiler or heat pump should run
- The actuators on the manifold should start to move, you will usually see ring at the top
- You should hear another pump running
- The water in the manifold should start to warm
- If the answer is no, it may be a case of getting a local heating engineer to investigate your heating.
- If the answer is yes but yet the floor is not getting up to temperature, an engineer may still need to come out to investigate and balance the system. The water temperature may not be warm enough penetrate the floor properly. Also be aware it can take over 8 hours from putting the heating on from scratch to get the temperature up as the floor itself needs to warm.
- The materials in the floor can also be a factor which is why you may have different rooms warm at different rates.
- If you have cold and hot spots in the floor, it would suggest blockages in the pipes. A heating engineer can flush these out.
If the zone light is not coming on when the thermostat calls for heat.
If the thermostat is hard wired (in other words, no battery tray at the bottom), it would suggest a possible fault with either the thermostat or wiring. Usually a local electrician can investigate.
If the thermostat does have a batteries and the zone light does not come on.
It usually means that the thermostat has either lost pairing to the wiring centre or there is a poor signal to the wiring centre. When this happens, the wiring centre may go into fail safe, meaning that the heating will come on for 12 minutes every hour until the issue is fixed. Therefore the room may not warm enough.
If it looks like the thermostat has lost pairing to the wiring centre
You will need to work out what thermostat and what wiring centre you are using
See:
Once you know this, you will need to go through the pairing. Here a a few combinations:
- Pair neoAir V3 with UH8-RF V2
- Pair neoAir V2 with UH8-RF V2
- Pair neoAir V1 with UH8-RF V2
- Pairing Slimline RF V3 to UH8-RF V2 wiring centre
-
Pair a Slimline RF or a Slimline RF V2 to a UH8-RF V2
- neoAir not communicating with UH8-RF but other thermostats do
- How do I pair my Slimline-RF to the UH8-RF
- Pairing Slimline RF V3 with UH8-RF wiring centre
Our Heatmiser controls will turn the heating on and off. What they cannot do is make the floor temperature get any hotter, so if it is water based heating, the manifold temperature may need turning up slightly, especially if it is really cold. If in doubt, contact a heating engineer. Same for if you have leaking valves, pumps not working, that is is heating engineer or a local plumber.
Also, if a room is poorly insulated, a room may not warm sufficiently.
