Here are the most common reasons why your heating may switch on when you don't expect it.
1. Optimum Start. The Heatmiser Thermostats have a function called Optimum Start.
Optimum Start pre-heats your home and will automatically learn how long your home takes to heat up.
As the seasons change, your thermostat will react by updating this preheat time.
Two settings are used for this function.
- Optimum Start
- Rate of Change (ROC)
Optimum Start is the maximum number of hours the thermostat will turn the heating on before your scheduled time. The thermostat may not use all of this time, it's a way to limit the total preheat time and is used in very cold buildings.
A value of 00 means the function is disabled. We suggest 3 hours for most homes. This is set on a per zone basis.
Rate of change is the number of minutes it takes to heat your home by 1C.
Your thermostat constantly updates the ROC (Rate of change) setting by checking if the heating was at temperature on time, too early or too late, and based on the result changes this setting.
2. Comfort Level Programming
The most common reason for the heating coming on when you don't expect it is due a mis-understanding on comfort level programming.
Heatmiser Thermostats don't use on/off times, they use Comfort Levels.
Rather that turning your heating on and off, comfort levels let you program different temperatures throughout the day. This method offers more control of your heating and is proven to be more energy efficient.
Here is a typical example of how you may program your heating.
- 08.00 - 20
- 09.00 - 16
- 17.00 - 21
- 23.00 - 15
In this example, the Heatmiser Thermostat would maintain 20C between 08.00 and 09.00 From 09.00 - 17.00 the set temperature would be 16C - whilst you are away from home.
When you return, the heating would maintain 21C from 17.00 - 23.00
At 23.00 the heating would reduce to 15C and this temperature would be maintained until the 1st programmed time the following morning
If you don't want to use all levels, you can set --.-- for the time which disables the level.
Consult the user manual for your thermostat on instructions how to program the comfort levels.
