Just be aware that rooms can warm without heating being on. For example if the ambient temperature outside is warm, this can affect the temperature that is showing on the Heatmiser controller. Also if you are in a flat, heat may be also coming from floors below you. Therefore first of all, check if the heating is actually coming on.
If it is Underfloor Heating
Electric Underfloor Heating
- We would advise a local electrician to investigate, if there is no flame icon on the thermostat, the heating should not be coming on.
If it is water based underfloor heating?
If there a flame icon on the thermostat
- If the answer is yes then the heating should be coming on?
If there is no flame icon on the thermostat
- Check your wiring centre. This will usually be near your manifold where the pipes for the underfloor heating will go into the floor.
Do you see zone lights on when there is no flame icon on the screen?
- If the thermostat is hard wired and the zone light is on, it could be a fault with the thermostat or the the wiring, an electrician can investigate.
- If the zone light never comes on the wiring centre, however the floor is warming, it may be an issue on the plumbing side, for example a faulty valve which is stuck open which is letting the warm water through. This is usually a job for a plumber.
- If the zones are responding correctly, the thermostat stops calling for heating and the light goes out, however the room continues to warm, it would suggest that the water that is flowing through the pipework has been set to high. Therefore it needs turning down on the manifold side. As the water temperature has not controlled by us, you may need a heating engineer or a plumber out to balance your underfloor heating system.
- Just also be aware that after the system has been balanced it could still take a long time for the heating in the room to reduce due to time that it takes for the floor to cool down.
The thermostats are battery powered and you have a wiring which is the UH8-RF or UH8-RF V2
- Check to see if there is a battery case on the underside of the thermostat. If there is, then it will send a radio signal to the wiring centre.
Are you seeing zone lights coming on the wiring centre when there is no flame icon on the screen?
- If yes, this will suggest that the wiring centre has entered fail-safe mode. It is because it cannot pick up a signal from the thermostat. Due to the wiring centre unable to receive any instructions, the heating will come on for 12 minutes every hour until the signal is restored.
This is usually caused by two issues:
- The thermostat has lost pairing to the wiring centre
- There is a poor signal between the thermostat and wiring centre
For this I would read: What is fail safe and how does it work?

If it is radiators controlled by a Heatmiser Thermostat
If the thermostat is hard wired.
Is there a flame icon on the thermostat?
- If the answer is yes, the heating should be coming on
If there is no flame icon?
- Does the heating come on only when something else is calling for heat, for example hot water or your underfloor heating is on?
- If the answer is yes, it could be an issue with your radiator valve. It is stuck in the open position, therefore whenever heat is called for, the warm water will flow into your radiators. This is usually fixed by a plumber.
- If the answer is no, it could be an issue with either wiring or the thermostat. This is usually fixed by an electrician.
If the thermostat has a battery tray at the bottom
- If there is a flame icon, the heating should be on and your receiver zone light should come on at the same time
- If there is no flame icon, however you see the receiver light on it would suggest that the receiver or wiring centre has entered fail-safe mode. It is because it cannot pick up a signal from the thermostat. Due to the wiring centre unable to receive any instructions, the heating will come on for 12 minutes every hour until the signal is restored.
This is usually caused by two issues:

- There is a poor signal between the thermostat and wiring centre or its receiver
